Life As I Know It

I Always Feel Like Somebody’s Watching Me

May 3rd 2009 in General

This was the name of a song that came out in 1984. It was about a man who was paranoid because he thought, well, that someone was watching him all the time.

Today I was sitting in church and it hit me that someone – actually two someone’s – are watching me all the time. Hannah went into big church with me today and was filling out her outline. I always write the speaker’s name in the upper right corner of my paper, so I’ll remember who spoke that day, so since Phillip Lee was speaking, I wrote down “Phillip.” I looked over and Hannah had written “Phillip” on her paper, too; in exactly the same spot I wrote it on my paper.

I had to stop and think about how my actions, words, etc. affect my kids. They really do watch me (and their dad) ALL the time. Sometimes that’s a scary thought. I don’t always act like I should. I remember one time when Hannah was about three-years-old, we were waiting at a stoplight and when it changed, the person in front of us didn’t move for a couple of seconds. Hannah proceeded to yell “GO ON!!!! MOOOOVVVE IT!!!” I was surprised, but then realized that I had been saying that exact thing in front of her. Not exactly a good thing to teach her!

I can’t help but feel humbled when I realize what a huge amount of trust God had in me when He allowed me to become a parent. I just hope I can be a good one. And have a bit more patience at the stoplights!

“Mom, will you eat lunch with me today?”

I hope it doesn’t seem silly to post this now, but I wrote it when Hannah was still in school a couple of months ago; I just never published it. But here goes:

My 11-year-old daughter asked me to come to her school and eat lunch with her today. I think it’s great that she [...]
